Yasha + Roy wedding
"The wedding is at Duke Chapel ... yes, Duke Chapel as in THE Duke Chapel!" That was the basic conversation I had with my good friend Mike Anderson when he called to ask if I would be his second shooter for Yasha and Roy's wedding in Durham. I could hear the excitement in his voice and knew this would be a great day. Then I met the bride and groom and immediately knew this would be one of those weddings I talk about for years.
Where to start? First spending the pre-ceremony time with Roy and his guys left me awestruck with how smart and ambitious these men are. I felt like I needed to go get a Master's degree to keep up with the conversation. When we got to Duke, I was again awestruck with how magnificent Duke Chapel really is. I'll admit the North Carolina fan in me has never really taken the time to appreciate the beautiful Duke campus. Understandably, Duke Chapel is in high demand, so shortly after the ceremony we had to move out in order for the staff to prepare for another wedding.
The reception was held at the Durham Hilton and it's there I saw one of the most amazing moments I've ever been witness to at a wedding. Yasha's wheelchair-bound father struggled to his feet for a few short moments in order to dance with his daughter. There was not a dry eye in the house. I'm tearing up right now thinking about about how moving it was. It's a moment that will forever remind me how important and special a wedding day is and what a tremendous honor it is to be there to tell the story.
A big thanks to Mike Anderson for asking me to second shoot for him on this one!
